Social web 2.0 is like a virtual world of friends, stores, schools. Everything that we have in the real world but much easier and accessible 24/7. It is so much easier and yet so much more effective.
Most of us have jobs, we have friends, we have co-workers but how many of us are doubling, tripling those numbers. Our “friends” and our professional networks have now increased by leaps and bounds. So much more fun and interactive this social web 2.0 world is. I love it!
In its broadest sense, social networking online is the process of communicating with another internet user and forming a social or business connection because you share similar interests or goals.
Social media is about facilitating those social networking connections through new forms of interactive media.
Today’s new media has partly replaced yesterday’s old (traditional) media.
Yesterday’s newspapers have been replaced by online magazines and blogs.
Yesterday’s editors are replaced by today’s phenomenal bloggers.
Yesterday’s radio has been replaced by podcasts and music sharing sites.
Yesterday’s TV has been replaced by the internet. The internet allows us to sit in front of the computer (as opposed to the couch) and view. View what? Everything!
The social internet is like the best reality tv shows, the best informational channels like Discovery & the Health Channel. The internet broadcasts all these channels via websites , videos and internet tv channels like on ustream.com and youtube.com
The internet is like yesterday’s visit to the library. I still encourage frequent visits to the library, there are some things you just don’t give up.
But the internet is open 24/7 and no late fees!
Yesterday’s traditional methods of communication with the outside world has been replaced with today’s social, interactive and technology driven internet. Even email is so passé. Use twitter.com or facebook.com email instead.

I don’t know about you but I get a wee bit annoyed at some of the newbie social etiquette bashing I see sometimes. I happen to be a pretty tolerant social networker and in general towards other people. To each his own and all that jazz. That is why I have a very broad “friending” policy. Everyone is welcome to be my friend until they are un-welcome. To become un-welcome, you have to do alot to tick me off.

First of course, is the sad state of our nation’s economy in general.
